Knee surgery ends season for Chivas D
Llamosa
(AP) - Carlos Llamosa will not be
playing soccer again this year.
Llamosa, a defender for Chivas USA, will be sidelined for nine months
after undergoing ACL reconstruction surgery on his left knee Friday.
An eight-year veteran of MLS, the 37-year-old Llamosa injured the knee
during training on April 10. He had yet to play with Chivas this season.
Team physicians Dr. Michael Gerhardt and Dr. Bert Mandelbaum performed
the reconstruction during which they also removed torn meniscus from
Llamosa's left knee.
A three-time MLS All-Star and member of the U.S. World Cup team in 2002,
Llamosa missed the entire 2004 season after tearing the ACL in the same
knee during preseason with the New England Revolution.
Llamosa, a native of Colombia, has appeared in 154 MLS games, notching
three goals and four assists. He had one assist in 13 games for Chivas
in 2006.
